Many snow birds have returned home this Spring to find their plumbing in shambles. It seams like the cold spell that we endured in January, really hit homeowners hard if they turned off their heating systems this year. My plumbing sources tell me that even though many of these property owners took some precautions to winterize their homes prior to departing, the colder and longer than normal temperature cycles managed to infiltrate their plumbing systems. Even with the plumbing intact, many have returned to find their dishwashers, washing machines and ice makers (ain't that a trip) damaged by residual water left in the pumps and filters of these appliances. Note to the wise for next year: enlist a neighbor or friend to look in on your home periodically when you're away and leave the heat on LOW, about 55 degrees. If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, do it NOW!
